Who are we?

Scottish Engineering is the major support and lobbying organisation for the manufacturing engineering industry in Scotland. We have been in existence in one form or another since 1865, looking after the affairs of the manufacturing engineering industry.

While we are one of the founder members of the Engineering Employers' Federation (EEF), we remain autonomous and independent co-operating
, where appropriate, with the EEF on matters involving a UK or European perspective.

Scottish Engineering is a non-profit making organisation which is wholly owned by its member companies.

The present membership of Scottish Engineering includes about 400 companies from throughout Scotland covering all sectors of the manufacturing industry.

Membership ranges from some of the country's largest companies such as Scottish Power, Babcock Rosyth Defence Ltd, Wood Group Engineering and National Semiconductor to the many successful and innovative small companies.

The Scottish Engineering Award is an annual award made to the Scottish manufacturing organisation which, in the past year, has significantly contributed to the progress of the industry and enhanced its image at home and abroad.

Scottish Engineering Award Winner 2007 was Alexander Dennis Limited

What We Do?

We maintain an excellent grasp of what is happening within the manufacturing industry through an extensive series of District Meetings and our Quarterly Review, which is a trends survey of related areas.

We ensure that interested and relevant bodies outwith the industry are kept abreast of important manufacturing matters. In terms of practical support, we maintain a team of professional staff who can provide immediate advice on Industrial Relations, Employment Policies and Practices and Support, Employment Tribunal Management, Lifelong Learning, Health Safety and Environment and Public Relations.

We raise the awareness of the Industry to those out with the Industry including MSPs, MPs, MEPs, Civil Servants, LECs, Education Establishments and Local Authorities.

Our Quarterly Review of the industry is produced and distributed widely to provide up-to-date information on the state of the industry in Scotland.

Representatives of member companies consider relevant matters while sitting on a number of committees covering a wide range of issues.

Throughout the year we organise and run a number of training seminars and conferences, information on which is distributed to all member companies and on our website ( Events Diary ).
