As part of his latest visit to Scotland, Bank of England Governor, Mervyn King met more than twenty senior executives from the Engineering Manufacturing Sector at the offices of Scottish Engineering in Glasgow.

Following a presentation by Mr King, Scottish Engineering Chief Executive, Dr Peter Hughes, chaired a question and answer session which resulted in a wide ranging discussion which involved the active participation of all attendees.

Dr Hughes said:

"We were delighted to welcome Mervyn King to Scottish Engineering.
It was obvious from his comments that he fully understands and appreciates the importance of the Engineering Manufacturing Sector to our economy at both the Scottish and UK level.

"Senior executives who attended the meeting were pleased that the Governor took time to explore the key issues affecting their sector and particularly appreciated his real grasp of the difficulties which they are currently facing."
