| UK Government's YES to Nuclear Power Stations |
|
Scottish Engineering welcomes the UK Government's announcement that it is to develop four new nuclear power stations, albeit in England. We are particularly pleased that they are fast tracking the planning process to eradicate the endless delays in planning procedure that have been previously experienced. The delays we have suffered in planning procedures in Scotland in recent years are totally unacceptable. A typical example is the length of time that has been taken in considering the Beauly to Denny power line.
It is also unfortunate that the Scottish Government continues to turn its back on the nuclear industry bearing in mind that it is of vital importance that our manufacturing engineering industry has a balanced, sustainable, secure and affordable energy supply for the future.
