| Ship building on the Clyde |

Dr Peter Hughes, Chief Executive of Scottish Engineering said:
"I would not be surprised if the management and trade union teams at BVT are more than a little annoyed by the hysteria being whipped up regarding future developments on the Clyde. The facts of the matter are that they have two major carriers to build and indeed there will be steel cut for this project next Tuesday, 7th July. They also have a full order book to 2014, and I know many companies who would be delighted to say that. I also know that the company is embarking on a long-term procurement deal with the Ministry of Defence and that the workforce is working very constructively with the management in bidding for several significant international orders. "The death of the Clyde has been much exaggerated in the past and I would rather see everyone getting behind the management and workforce as they jointly seek to ensure that any forthcoming shortfall in naval orders is filled from other sources".
