| Engineering body supports Weir |

Responding to the announcement that Weir Group plc has agreed with the Crown Office in Scotland to plead guilty to two charges of breaking UN sanctions, Dr Peter Hughes, Chief Executive of Scottish Engineering said: "This ‘offence' has to be seen in context. It happened a long time ago - almost 10 years - and nobody is still working for the company who had any knowledge of the issue. "It has to be pointed out that at the time Weir Group plc held up its hands and raised the matter in 2004. Surely this is not the act of an organisation trying to cover up the actions of a few wayward employees.
"I know from my contacts within the Weir Group that the company has since instigated a stringent culture which has zero tolerance for such activities.
"As we know, the Weir Group continues to be a highly regarded and successful standard bearer for the engineering industry in Scotland with an international reputation for quality and service."
