Dalbeattie High School has won the 2009 Formula Schools championship - which is their second success in three years. They competed against schools from around the UK and won the UK Formula Schools Championship at Silverstone race track. The team is called the DBT McNish racing team as they are supported by former F1 and Le Mans driver Alan McNish.
In the morning of race day the team set a record of 32 laps in seven minutes which put them in pole position for the afternoon Grand Prix. Of their three races they were outright winners in the second which gave them the Grand Prix trophy.
Dr Peter Hughes, Chief Executive of Scottish Engineering said: "This is an astounding result for a Scottish school and the pupils and staff involved have to be congratulated. We at Scottish Engineering are delighted to see such a high level of competence and enthusiasm for our sector and hope that it will give everyone who was involved an appreciation of the opportunities within our profession."
