The voice of manufacturing engineering in Scotland
Clyde Union support Go4SET
King's Park Secondary School all girls team have won the Go4SET Trophy and the Best Overall Project Award for their outstanding project on Alternative Electricity Sources at the Go4SET Glasgow Celebration and Assessment Day (CAD), which took place on Monday 2nd March at Strathclyde University. The team were presented with the trophy and a cheque for £250 by the guest speaker, David Whitton MSP.

Clyde Union supported both King's Park Secondary School and St Ninian's High School during the project with their engineering graduates Murdo McBride and Marcos Sanz acting as mentors and Devinder Thomson (HR Business Partner) coordinating them as representatives of Clyde Union.

Murdo commented ""Go4SET is the first point of contact many of the pupil's had with engineering. Provided with the right encouragement and support, the hard work and enthusiasm they displayed throughout makes me confident we can build on our country's distinguished engineering heritage far into the future."
Marcos also commented: "Go4SET has been an extremely positive experience. I am highly pleased I was selected to be one of the two company mentors"

12 teams presented their projects to the judges and guests on the day. The other award winners at the event were Chryston High School, who won the Innovation Award with a cheque for £250, Braidhurst High School, who won the Best Team Work award with a cheque for £250 and Largs Academy who won the Students Choice Award with a cheque for £250.

The Go4SET Alternative Electricity Sources project was announced at the launch event in November 2008. The teams of six 12 to 14 year olds (S2) worked with their teacher and mentors from industry on the challenging 10-week project, which included providing recommendations for a new build Eco Hotel. At the CAD event the pupils demonstrated their individual projects to a group of assessors and discussed their projects with guests attending the event.

David Whitton MSP for Strathkelvin & Bearsden commented
"It was a pleasure to present these pupils with the prizes. It was clear that all the schools taking part had spent a lot of time and effort on the projects.
"Kings Park Secondary Schools project on Alternative Electricity Sources was one that particularly impressed me. I hope that all the pupils taking part learn from this experience and go forward and study the sciences and engineering at a higher level.
"Scotland has a great tradition of producing some of the best scientists in the world and I'm sure that the next generations of great Scottish scientists were amongst the pupils here today."
