The voice of manufacturing engineering in Scotland
Clyde Blowers honoured
Scotland's most prestigious engineering award for 2008 has been won by Clyde Blowers, the East Kilbride based engineering group. The Scottish Engineering Award was received by Chairman and CEO Jim McColl OBE, at the annual Awards dinner in the Crowne Plaza, Glasgow on Thursday May 15th.

The audience of 350 senior engineers and their guests applauded the decision by the support organisation to present the award to one of Scotland's most high profile manufacturing engineering companies.

In announcing the award, Dr Peter Hughes, Chief Executive of Scottish Engineering praised Clyde Blowers as one of the world's most successful and innovative business development companies. He said: "This year's candidates were all of an extremely high standard and it is to Clyde Blowers' credit that they have come out on top. It is also worth mentioning that we are now exactly a year on from the company's incorporation of Weir Pumps, into Clyde Pumps."

In accepting the award from First Minister The Rt Hon Alex Salmond MSP, Jim McColl said: "Clyde Blowers is absolutely thrilled to have been given the Scottish Engineering Award 2008 particularly against such strong competition. I am honoured that we have been recognised for our contribution to Engineering in Scotland."

Also presented at the dinner were President's Awards for outstanding achievement to: BAE Systems Surface Fleet Solutions, Scottish & Southern Energy, Converteam UK Ltd, Allied Vehicles Ltd, Thales Optronics Ltd, Aggreko UK Ltd, John M Henderson & Co Ltd and Allenwest Wallacetown Limited.
