Scotland's most prestigious engineering award for 2009 has been won by Howden, the multi national company with its headquarters in Glasgow.

The Scottish Engineering Award was received by Chief Executive Bob Cleland, at the annual awards dinner in the Marriott Hotel, Glasgow.

The audience of 350 senior engineers and their guests applauded the decision by the support organisation to present the award to one of Scotland's most high profile manufacturing engineering companies.

In announcing the award, Dr Peter Hughes, Chief Executive of Scottish Engineering highlighted the fact that the company's 2008 sales were £627.2m, an increase of 30.6% on the previous year. He also praised the company's year end order book which, at December 31, 2008 stood at £499.3m, an increase of 19.8% which was a record year-end level.

The Award goes to a manufacturing engineering company working in Scotland which has made a significant contribution towards raising the standard of the engineering sector and has been shown to be an appropriate standard bearer for that sector.
